Striving to close the talent skills gap

Happy Global Talent Acquisition Day!

We know what you’re thinking, yet another global day that you’ve never heard of beforeSo why do we think you should care about this one specifically? Global days can mean different activities for different companies: a reason to decorate the office, an excuse for a team building day out, a social media takeover, or an occasion to order in some treats for the talent team. For us here at Tecknuovo, Global Talent Acquisition Day is a chance for us to openly discuss how we are actively striving to close the skills gap and the importance of diversity, equity, and inclusion throughout all talent acquisition we carry out.  

What’s the purpose of this article?

We have put together some resources touching on upskilling, which we feel can help those currently looking for work. We hope this will also act as a guidance piece for companies looking at hiring and how to ensure you are attracting a truly diverse pool of candidates. We are by no means experts, but these are steps we have taken to educate ourselves and of course, we are still learning every day. 

With our pedigree in recruitment, our talent acquisition team are strongly equipped to source the very best talent for each role required. Tecknuovo has been built on the understanding that not only do diverse teams work better, diverse and inclusive companies drive innovative results. Our internal values and core ethos focus on having a diverse workforce, this is indispensable to the business. Whilst the wider tech industry tends to struggle and often fail to attract diverse talent due to inclusivity issues in the workplace, Tecknuovo aims to change this. 

That is all well and good, but what do we actively do to action this day to day?

Our target is and will always involve having strong and strategic partnerships. We are proud to be partnered with a host of diverse job boards and niche job groups to aid us in reaching our goal of being truly diverse and inclusive both internally when looking for new suppliers, and externally when working with our clients.  

Pre-COVID-19, the Tecknuovo talent team were huge advocates of making real life contact with potential associates – networking and helping to organise a variety of different meetups – finding this was the best way to make new friends and build rapport in the tech space. Sadly, meetups have understandably taken a huge hit as a result of the pandemic and so this interaction has had to be adapted and now the team are embracing the new world of remote meetups 

“We believe collaboration is the key to achieving a truly diverse, equal and inclusive team in any company, whether that be through internal collaboration or working with our network. With the pandemic and the move to more remote working, it’s imperative that companies continue to work with their employees to ensure they continue to feel included and offer the right training programmes tailored to enable continuing growth.

Whilst the current job market has been a little on the quiet front, we have encouraged our associates to take time to upskill themselves if they have the time. There are several Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) available online, below are just a few:

As we are still learning, when it comes to implementation we turn to the expertise of our Head of Diversity, Equity and Inclusivity.
