Meet the associates: Michael Cartwright, Business Analyst
In this blog series you'll meet our Tecknuovo associates — the talented community of technologists who work on-site with our customers to help them deliver lasting transformation. First up is Michael Cartwright, Business Analyst on a customer experience programme with Thames Water. Learn all about him here!
What is your role with Tecknuovo?
I am a Business Analyst working in the customer experience programme at Thames Water. My role sits on the website transformation team, where I work with a mixture of internal permanent Thames Water staff and other Tecknuovo associates. We’re working to install agile methodologies to replatform Thames Water’s website and create a modern, value-driven, customer-focused digital presence that fulfils the objectives of organisation.
What attracted you to Tecknuovo?
I hadn’t actually come across Tecknuovo before I got a call from one of the talent team about a contract opportunity. However, the position was just what I was looking for in terms of the role (Agile Business Analyst), and in terms of the conditions, as the contract would be outside of IR35.
The initial chats I had were professional, friendly, and happened quickly. The interview and onboarding processes were seamless, quick and accommodating. It was a no-brainer to pick this contract over another opportunity I had.
How did you get into tech?
I was doing data and project work, and during a career break in New Zealand, I took a random online Business Analysis course. It all started from there — I managed to move into an entry level Business Analyst job, and I haven’t looked back since.
What does your typical day look like?
By championing agile principles, I promote a healthy team-wide drive to continuously improve what we do, and how we’re doing it.
On a daily basis the focus is on how we can deliver value for the client and their customers. We use agile business analysis to achieve this by providing clarity amid the noise, giving the programme confidence to take a step forward or by stepping back and looking holistically at the bigger picture.
Some days I like to work from the Tecknuovo offices in London Bridge. It’s a nice work environment, and a great way to keep in touch with that side of the team.
Why is working with Tecknuovo different from other consultancies?
It’s really refreshing having Tecknuovo itself and other Tecknuovo associates on-hand as a pool of knowledge and support. It’s also a big appeal that Tecknuovo work with a number of exciting customers, and have the ability to match my skillset to other customers and programmes in future.
I’ve only ever really communicated with my contacts from other consultancies at the start of a contract or during renewal stages. The relationships I experienced there were limited and felt purely transactional. Working with Tecknuovo is very different to that!
How would you describe Tecknuovo to your friends?
I’ll continue to recommend Tecknuovo to my previous colleagues who want to start or continue working as contractors on tech programmes, all whilst enjoying the perfect balance of support and autonomy.
What’s something we wouldn’t find on your LinkedIn?
I’m an ex-regional tenpin bowling champion.
Modern methods of delivery
I have been passionate about and working with agile methodologies for 10 years, and it’s this enthusiasm that I bring to my role as Head of Delivery at Tecknuovo. I’ve worked with clients in the private and public sectors to adopt agile ways of working and support a culture change.
